Sober Living after Detox. Hundreds of thousands of individuals in New Jersey struggle with addiction. Half of all the addiction admissions are for the abuse of prescription painkillers and other opiates.
For individuals struggling with substance abuse and their families, getting help can be hard. While various NJ addiction treatment programs and options are available, how can you know which option is right for you or your loved one?
Admission or intervention and detoxification are the first steps to recovery. However, recovery does not end once the substance has been removed from the body. Long-term treatment is recommended in order to address patterns of behavior, life stressors, and any co-occurring disorders that may factor into an individual’s addiction.
After Detox: Substance Abuse Treatment Programs
Each individual’s experience with recovery is different. Some may complete detox during an inpatient stay. Others may pursue ambulatory detox or detox on their own from home. One may choose to continue outpatient programming, while others may pursue an extended rehabilitation program.
Rehab typically refers to a residential substance abuse treatment program. This may be an inpatient facility, a sober living home, or halfway house. Inpatient facilities are best understood as substance abuse hospitals, where individuals receive treatment in the same place that they stay. This is not the case for sober living or halfway houses. One may remain involved in treatment while living in these homes. However, this treatment is usually outpatient care that is received off-site.
There is no “cure” for addiction. Sobriety is an active choice that individuals make every day for the rest of their lives. For some, recovery does get easier and can be achieved independently. Others may pursue regular counseling to help them.
Before leaving a treatment program or rehabilitation, ask about discharge planning. Discharge planning is simply a discussion of your long-term options after treatment. Your program advisors will be able to help with this. One may attend a regular outpatient program, or see a therapist individually as desired.
At Tranquil & Quest, clients participate in the discharge and aftercare planning process. Each person’s recovery is different, but support is always key.
